Born in Lucca, Giovanni Passalia graduated in piano with full honors from Istituto Musicale “L. Boccherini” in Lucca. He was later a student of Carlo Bruno in Rome and attended numerous specialization and master’s courses in technique at the prestigious Vincenzo Vitale Piano School in Naples. He also attended master’s courses with pianist Carlo Zecchi at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and with Maestro Konstantin Bogino. In 2007 he received the level II academic diploma from Istituto Musicale “L. Boccherini”.
He placed second in Rome’s “B. Bartòk” Competition, which is a competition entirely dedicated to music from the 1900s, and was a finalist in the “A. Casella” International Competition in Naples.
He has held many concerts as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in various cities in Italy and abroad, including the RAI Auditorium in Naples with RAI Naples’s “A. Scarlatti” Orchestra and has recorded for Radio3.
In recent years he has been dedicated to widening his repertoire by studying and performing contemporary music.
He has taught piano for many years at various schools and conservatories in Italy; he is currently professor of Piano Practice and Interpretation at Conservatorio “A. Boito” in Parma and teaches piano at Scuola di Musica Sinfonia in Lucca.
